The schooling of the population and the development of education in Romania took place in stages, but for sure. This is how one of the most famous buildings with an extremely important role in this direction is the First Romanian School in Brașov. Personalities such as deacon Coresi, teacher Barbu Horban, archpriest Florea Baran and deacon Oprea give birth, here, to documents that will later be recognized as historical certificates. History and presentation
The year 1495 is considered to be the moment when the foundation stone of this building was laid. According to historical sources, the intention to build a headquarters of this magnitude was shared by many personalities of the time. However, only in 1583 did the first Romanian language courses take place inside the building, which would later be called the First Romanian School in Brașov.
From this moment, deacon Coresi, the well-known scholar, printer and publisher from Transylvania, had the opportunity to print his first books written in Romanian.
The building that represents the First Romanian School in Brașov dates from 1760. Over time, it was declared a historical monument, housing over 4,000 books and another 30,000 documents that keep alive the historical past.
The First Romanian School Museum
Today, inside the building there is the First Romanian School Museum, which is run by the priest Sebastian Pârvu. The rooms that can be visited inside the museum are:
• "Anton Pann" Hall - highlights the stops that the great storyteller Anton Pann used to make, found in books and valuable documents;
• “Braşov Book and Scholars” Hall - highlights the work of Brasov teachers to be with the school and the church, to the same extent. Personalities such as copyists, translators and other art creators are mentioned in this room, through values found in the historical archive of the museum. Among them are the Parimiar of the Archpriest Vasile, Crai nou and many others;
• The “Book, factor of national unity” hall - presents an exhibition of books that have contributed to shaping the Romanian national culture, as well as to maintaining the connection between the Romanian lands. These include works such as the Bible from Bucharest - 1688 and Varlaam's Cazania - 1643;
• “Cu Vatră” Hall - presents icons and household objects representative of the old Brașov. Through them, tourists can better discover the village character of Scheiu;
• “Deacon Coresi” Hall - has a special importance, as it is the hall where many books were printed by Deacon Coresi. These include Cazania II, Psaltirea, Octoihul and many others.
