The Black Church is the most important historical monument in the city of Brașov. The church was built from 1383, on the initiative of the priest Thomas Sander and is considered today a symbol of the Transylvanian Gothic.
In 1689, the church was partially destroyed by fire. The reconstruction requires almost 100 years. During this time the roof is extended and it is a renovated interior, losing itself and the influences are good and acquiring an influential Baroque. The church preserves fragments of medieval wall paintings, the gothic bronze chapel (1472), panels of the altar in Feldioara (1495), eighteenth-century strangers, the big organ (1839), the small organ (1861) and most important collection of oriental rugs from Europe outside Turkey.
Today the Black Church of Brașov is considered the largest place of worship in Romania, with impressive dimensions: 90 meters long, between 25 and 37 meters in time and the height of the ridge tower that reaches 65 meters, returns to care and perhaps the largest bell in the country, weighs 6.3 tonnes of care.
