This "gate" was built with a well-defined purpose from the beginning, that of facilitating the access of the Scheians in Brasov, in the middle of the distance between the "Bastionul Sessatoriilor" and "Fierarilor" exactly where there was before a gate that had before It was destroyed in 1526. The length of this monument is impressive for that period, stretching from the current Corp S of the University "Transylvania" to beyond the current "Poarta Schei". Being located at the end of Catherine's street - which in turn took its name from the monastery of nuns who had been there - the gate received the name "Ecaterina". After that, in 1559, the tower of the gate that can be seen today is also erected. Of square shape, on three levels, the construction has at the top four turrets that symbolized "Jus Gladii", a medieval privilege that gave the rulers of Brasov the right to apply the supreme punishment. The tower's vault is painted in the Renaissance style, and its architecture is unique in the world, making it a precious artistic jewel. There were also found documents that say that for the 8 shooting holes guns were brought from Prague. Unfortunately, the Gate Tower is greatly degraded due to the fires and earthquakes of the years 1689 - 1738. In 1827 the gate except the tower was torn down because they no longer met the requirements of the Romanian merchants and the current "Gate Gate" was later built.
Over time, the gate tower was renovated and art and history exhibitions are now held regularly. For those who come to Brasov, it is worth to visit this monument, especially since there are many hotels in the area where you can stay to visit all the surroundings. This monument is very loaded with history, it deserves to be seen by anyone passing through Brasov.
There is not much to say about this monument, we better let the pictures speak, so pay a visit because it is totally worth it.
